They do not consider this fraudulent activity, apparently, because they aren't using nor asking for account numbers or personal information. I explained that while that is true, they should be getting email to themselves when they sign up for things!! However, I'm getting the emails which is fraudulent activity. I was told that because my name nor phone number is associated with this account they could not close it because "anyone can open an email account in anyone's name". I called AOL customer service and told them all of this.

That phone number was NOT mine, but seemed to have the same area code as my phone number.

I attempted to access the account using the 'reset password' option and they wanted to verify me by sending a verification code to a phone number. I have never had an AOL email account and I do not use AOL whatsoever and have no access to this account. I've been receiving emails sent TO " (name blocked out for my security) and they also CC TO " however, the emails are actually coming to MY ACTUAL EMAIL ADDRESS The emails consist of marketing ads and emails thanking me for signing up for services such as home security and fitness programs!
